Commissioned by the Finzi Charitable Trust, John Beavan creates a plinth to display the bronze sculpture bust of English composer Gerald Finzi, meticulously created by Jemma Pearson’s expertise in sculpture.
Fintz devoted himself to composing and apple-growing, saving many rare English apple varieties from extinction, there was no other option of the veneer to use, it had to be Applewood.
The Applewood veneer grain was used in an opposite direction to give the marquetry words
‘All my work hath pros-per’d well’ a modest presence.
Unveiled by members of the Finzi family during an evening celebrating Finzi’s music at London’s in the Royal Academy of Music
